Hi, I’m Elle Payne, the creator of The Positive Vet Nurse, and I know firsthand what it feels like to struggle with confidence and self-esteem. My career in veterinary medicine started like many others, driven by a love for animals, but I was oblivious to the limiting beliefs I was placing on myself.
I have worked in veterinary for almost a decade, yet it took me years of self-work before I had the confidence in my nursing abilities, and even longer to realise that I was more than capable of achieving the things I once thought impossible.
During my final year at university, while navigating my own mental health challenges, I launched The Positive Vet Nurse page. I wanted to create a safe space where veterinary professionals could openly discuss mental health, reduce stigma, and offer support to one another.
The moment I realised I was making an impact was when I started receiving messages from individuals reaching out for guidance. These messages meant the world to me, especially because they came from people who trusted me due to my background and my understanding of their struggles.
As the page grew, I began receiving speaking opportunities, invitations to appear on podcasts, publish my work and get invited to events. I finally started to feel seen and heard—something I never thought would happen after years of feeling like I wasn’t enough.
It was a powerful reminder that when you open up and share your story, you create a community of like-minded people who are often facing the same challenges.
Stepping onto the stage for my first speaking engagement was terrifying, yet exhilarating. I never imagined I would have the courage to speak in front of an audience, but once I did, it felt natural—and empowering.
The most inspiring feedback I receive is from individuals who share how my words have helped them, or how they’ve found comfort and inspiration from my story. To know that my experiences have had a positive impact on others is incredibly rewarding.
Coaching came into my life at a time when I was experiencing burnout and questioning my place in the veterinary field. It became a way for me to connect with other women in the profession and help them work through the challenges they were facing.
Coaching has been an outlet where I can use my experiences to guide others, and seeing how far I’ve come in my journey makes me incredibly proud.
Helping others navigate their own career and personal growth is one of the most fulfilling aspects of what I do.
One of my biggest goals is to expand The Positive Vet Nurse platform, offering even more resources and guidance to those who need it.
Ultimately, I’d love to coach full-time, helping people in the veterinary field break through self-doubt, burnout, and the barriers that hold them back.
